I don't intend to promote UMNO-BN, but this is quite interesting.

.

The UMNO Deputy President, Tok Mat Hasan, who is the BN strategist for the recent Melaka election, has appeared on Astro Awani and listed down the main factors why BN won with a landslide in Melaka. I will share those factors here:

1. The low voter turnout is the biggest help for UMNO-BN. According to Tok Mat, if the turnout was more than 65%, then UMNO-BN would NOT have won with a landslide like this.

2. Some voters didn't get out to vote due to COVID19.

3. Many voters from outside Melaka decided not to travel back to Melaka to vote. This is probably because it's "just" a State election instead of a General Election. Voters who work in cities outside Melaka are usually voters who would have voted for the Opposition.

4. The tight SOPs due to the pandemic have given an advantage to UMNO-BN. According to Tok Mat, the SOPs ensured that the Opposition could not organise their usual speeches (ceramah) with large crowds. He said that these large crowds would influence certain voters to be swayed to the Opposition, because such voters are the type who would want to be with the stronger party (winning team).

5. The strength of UMNO-BN lies in their local grassroots (local machinery) in the towns and villages of Melaka. UMNO-BN only needed to mobilise their "in situ" supporters to campaign for them.

6. UMNO-BN decided to put up new candidates and young candidates from their Women wing and Youth wing. Putting up new faces as candidates, can show that UMNO has changed (**even when the leaders of the party are the same old men LOL**).
